The story revolves around the successful TV presenter Lisa Wartberg. Her mother, Maria, feels neglected and unwelcome. Together with Otto she wants to fulfill her lifelong dream: once in her life to go to America, and be married at the foot of the Statue of Liberty! So the two go on a secret cruise. When Lisa finds out, she follows them together with Otto's son Axel and his twelve-year-old son. The turbulent events culminate in the meeting of the three generations on the high seas.
